Water supply project
with solar energy for the Yamaram Suku community
The Shuar Yamaram Suku community is located in the Sucumbíos Province, on the road between Shushufindi and Limoncocha in eastern Ecuador.

The population of Shuar nationality of Yamaram Suku lives mainly from the hunting of wild animals and agriculture. The average monthly gross income for a family is less than US$30.
The solar energy system initially comprises 3 Isofoton I 110 panels with a total of 330 Wp (peak watts), 3 MAC seasonal accumulators of 12 V (volts) 150 Ah (ampere hours) 1 30 A regulator and 1 Triplite APS 900 inverter W (110V AC power generation for local electric water pump).

The 25 families now have access to more than 30 liters of water per day and person with the system. The pump is working about 1.8 hours per day. The pumping distance of the water is 1100 meters.

The community is looking for financing to be able to increase the system with taps in houses and latrines in the future.

Yamaram Suku safe water system: Water connection and shower next to the school
The system was co-executed by the Yamaram Suku community, CODESO and FOISE, the Federation of Indigenous Organizations of Sucumbíos Ecuador, with headquarters in Lago Agrio, Sucumbíos, Telefax: 593-6-831465, foise@ecuabox.com.

The main financing provided the Project for the Development of the Indigenous and Black Peoples of Ecuador PRODEPINE RAN Telefax 593-6-887706, prodran@yahoo.com.

There was also support from the Illustrious Municipality of Limoncocha.
It is important that the community has its photovoltaic safe water system to have access to clean water. The community previously used water from a stream, and I had to bring their water in cans from a distance of more than a kilometer. The water, which they previously used, was not suitable for human consumption.

The solar system helps preserve the ecosystem.
